PDF to Text

Extract readable text from any PDF

Extraction happens entirely in your browser, the PDF is never uploaded to a server. Scanned or image-based PDFs contain no extractable text, so they may return little or nothing.

About this tool

JoliTools PDF to Text pulls the readable text out of your PDF documents without uploading them anywhere. The extraction runs in your browser, so even sensitive contracts or personal documents stay on your device. Text is organized with clear page separators, and you get an instant page and character count before you copy or download anything.

Extracting text from a PDF is the fastest way to reuse content: quote a report in an email, pull figures into a spreadsheet, or archive document contents in searchable plain text. The one-click .txt download gives you a file you can open anywhere, on any device.

How to use the pdf to text

  1. 1Choose a PDF file from your device (up to 50 MB).
  2. 2Click “Extract text” and watch the per-page progress.
  3. 3Review the extracted text with page and character counts shown above it.
  4. 4Copy it to your clipboard or download it as a .txt file.

Good to know

One honest limitation: this tool reads the text layer already inside the PDF. Scanned documents and image-only PDFs contain no text layer, so they return little or nothing, that is not a bug in the tool, it is the nature of the file. If the tool warns you about a likely scan, an OCR service is the right next step.

Frequently asked questions

Scanned documents and image-based PDFs have no embedded text layer, they are pictures of pages, not real text. The tool warns you when this happens; you need an OCR (optical character recognition) tool to read scanned pages.
