About this tool

Your grade point average (GPA) summarizes your academic performance in a single number. This calculator uses the standard 4.0 scale used by most US colleges and high schools: an A earns 4.0 grade points per credit, a B earns 3.0, and so on down to 0.0 for an F. Each course contributes its grade points multiplied by its credit hours, so a 4-credit class moves your GPA more than a 1-credit lab.

Computing a GPA by hand is tedious, especially across semesters with different credit loads. Here you just type in each course, its credits, and its grade, the GPA recalculates instantly every time you change, add, or remove a row. The tool also totals your credit hours, which is handy when you need both numbers for a scholarship application or transfer form.

How to use the gpa calculator

  1. 1For each course, enter its name (optional), credit hours, and your letter grade.
  2. 2Click "+ Add course" to add more courses to the list.
  3. 3Use the ✕ button to remove any course you don't want counted.
  4. 4Your GPA updates live, alongside your total counted credits.

Good to know

Note that grading policies differ between schools. Honors and AP courses are often graded on a weighted scale (up to 5.0), and some institutions use a 4.33 scale where an A+ earns extra. If your school's scale differs, this calculator's result won't match your transcript exactly, always confirm with your school's official grading policy.
